This course is a practical course with an emphasis on making good decisions by staying calm and safe, doing good patient assessment, establishing efficient communication channels and providing proper leadership to the group. This 16 hour class will give the students ample time to practice their first aid and leadership skills in an outdoor setting. This class will focus on practicing skills and covering patient assessment, shock and bleeding, head and spinal injuries, wounds, musculoskeletal injuries, heat and cold illnesses, and much more. The course will provide outdoor scenarios to practice and refresh first aid skills. This course and 2-year NASAR card are required for adult leaders attending Philmont. It is recommended, but not required, that students taking this class should take an Adult CPR prior to attending this course. This course is being offered one time only in June 2019. Location: SFBAC Youth Leadership Training Center 1001 Davis St., San Leandro, CA.
Cost: $125. Additional $50 if a 2-year NASAR card, e.g. for Philmont, Sea Base, Northern Tier, Summit or other National BSA camp. $20 Late Fee after June 1, however this course usually fills in early spring.
